Kim & Nelson | An epic East Coast Peggy’s Cove Plan B Wedding August 16, 2020
So pre-pandemic Nelson and Kim had plans to elope in Scotland this summer. When that became impossible they moved onto Plan B, a tiny intimate wedding on the rocks of Peggy’s Cove. Schedules were timed to sunset, it was going to be lush, romantic and epic. The kind of epic we got instead is typical “Nova Scotian” weather. The fog rolled in so thick that it hung in the air and you could barely make out the iconic lighthouse. I started choosing shot locations by the side of the highway simply because the trees blocked the rolling mist. Peggy’s Cove had a handful of parked cars and not a tour bus in sight. While we indulged in the “touristy” shots with no tourists in the background a local cafe owner who was closing up asked if they were the couple getting married here today because they could not go to Scotland this year. “Everyone in Peggy’s Cove knows everybody’s business”, she followed up, and wished them heartfelt congratulations as her voice cracked and she fought back the tears. Then it was my turn, I’m not crying, you’re crying. Her sincere best wishes and authentically Nova Scotian response brought home how challenging finding our feet and finding hope in this “new normal” has been for us all. I feel beyond blessed to be invited along on Plan B’s (and C’s and even D’s) by couples who just want to get hitched and who, at this point, could care less if the weather is less than ideal. Thank you Kim and Nelson, for being exactly who you are, and for inviting me along for the ride.
