Mila & Drew | Captain’s House Chester Wedding August 8, 2015
I have to start this post by thanking a whole lot of strangers from Chester Nova Scotia. I shot Mila and Drew’s big day at the Captain’s House which overlooks the water and is on a street that had a usual amount of small town traffic. What was unusual, and yet somehow totally expected, was the graciousness of the residents and their driving habits. Not only did we not get run over, shooting in the street but many cars held back or even re-routed to stay out of our shots! Thank you East Coasters! So, aside from true Nova Scotian hospitality, Mila and Drew’s day was full to the brim with touching details, tears, laughter and amazing moments brought to you by many involved but certainly highlights for me include those brought to us by the Song and Dance team Karen and Wendy. Mothers of the bride and groom often end up doing a lot of work for their children’s weddings, but these two ladies were all in. Drew’s mom Karen sewed what I’m guessing was close to 100 lace chair covers and handled all the decorating(with an assist from sister Robin). Mila’s mom Wendy, a retired Elementary school music teacher, sang her speech to her daughter, changing the words to “Froggy went a Courtin” (“Drew went a Courtin”) and then closed her set by singing us the unknown second verse to “Without Us” (the theme song to Family Ties TV show). Even I was almost crying. The start of the dance found mom Karen and her son debuting a surprise choreographed dance to “Uptown Funk”, and mom Wendy was working in the kitchen, pulling out snack food for the party ahead. Mila and Drew relaxed into their DIY day with ease, because they knew their family and friends, they got this!
