Maddy & Codey | Shining Waters Marine Wedding Tantallon Nova Scotia October 2, 2019
Okay, so after almost 20 years of shooting as a professional, full-time wedding photographer it takes a lot, and I mean a lot, to get me to cry at a wedding. I’ve witnessed the best in people come out on a wedding day, and villages rise up to support and celebrate the couple. The family connections are what resonate with me each wedding day like when Maddy’s grandfather walked her down the isle and said “Good Luck” as he presented her to Codey. I feel like I got to know Grampy in that moment, and a bit about Maddy too!
As a parent myself, I always enjoy listening to stories that come out during toasts from parents of the bride and groom. The things they choose to share, the things they can’t forget. I”ll often chuckle outlaid or say “awww” with the rest of the crowd, but I simply don’t cry. But then, after Codey’s mom remembered singing him “You Are My Sunshine” each night, she was surprised to hear the couple had chosen a Johnny Cash cover of that song for her mother/son dance.
And just like that I’m choking back the tears watching Codey’s mom choke back the tears. My parents sung that to me, and to my twins and I’m one of the few girls from the 80’s who liked Oliva Newton John and Johnny Cash equally. And oh no, I just YouTube’d it while writing this and it has me going again.
