Laura & Christopher | Waegwoltic Club Halifax Wedding September 17, 2016
Twice this year, I’ve have “you did my sister’s wedding a few years ago” weddings. Those make you work in a particular way, to both deliver on the familiar way of story telling they are expecting, but also to capture this bride and groom’s own story, even though some of the locations, elements and featured players are the same. Laura & Christopher’s day started for me with a welcoming Hello from her mom, who right away remembered my twins, asked how old they are, and made the appropriate face when I mentioned that they’ve started school this year. When you watch, for the second time, a MOB and FOB, embrace while looking at their daughter finally dressed and ready to head to the church you feel honoured to have been asked back. But let me tell you what gave me the goose bumps at the end of the night. Not long into the day, I find out that Christopher’s mom is a twin, and he describes his Aunt as basically having a second mom in his toasts and thank yous. But get this: half way through the “groom and his mother” dance, he graciously escorts his mom back and pulls his very surprised Aunt out onto the dance floor. I’m such a softie for the Mother Son dances, now that I am a mom, but that one in particular had me fighting to keep it together. Parents, you raised some good kids. Laura and Christopher, I’ve spent no time talking about the two of you when it should be all about you but anyone who looks below will see how connected, real, and romantically there you are for each other. With that laugh that can’t be contained in Laura, and those Mad Men looks Christopher threw at me, it was easy for me to find the story of you.
