Jane & Dave June 11, 2016
On fairly short notice, I was invited into one of the most intimate, joy-filled, relaxed and romantic “small” weddings I’ve covered so far. This is Jane and Dave, and their children, and their children’s children. Jane and Dave wanted to keep their nuptials casual and never thought to hire a photographer, but Dave’s daughter Deanna pitched me paying a visit, reminding them “how often is our family all together”. Some might call this an extended family session with a wedding ceremony as the highlight of the afternoon. Either way, I had a great time listening to Jane and Dave’s story, worked hard at keeping it together a couple of times during the toasts, and then got to go play with their insanely well behaved grandchildren on the coast of St Margrets Bay, Nova Scotia. Highlights: the kids calling Dave Gumpa, hauling Jane out of the kitchen twice for her turn at photos, and watching three generations “warming the rings” before Jane and Dave exchanged them during their vows. The two ring bearers had the important job of passing the rings around to everyone, and having the guests rub the wedding with a wish, blessing or prayer for the marriage. So charming, just like Jane and Dave, their children and their children’s children.
