“The Emergence”, thirtySomething Dance’s triumphant return to the stage May 11, 2022
I’m struggling to find the right words. I’m writing this artistic director’s note for our program a week before opening night. It will go to print before we even gather at the theatre and start setting lights. Will we all be here, as a full cast, free from positive tests and isolation requirements? If we are it will be a minor miracle.
It has taken more than just luck to get to this show. It has been two long years of questions and confusion. We navigated many moments of fear and frustration by having faith in each other and embracing the power of our collective skills and fabtacular-ness. 19 years strong, we clearly love the bright lights and fancy costumes. These past two seasons of forced retirement made us really dig into what makes us, us. Not knowing if or when we’d make it to stage we kept moving, creating, supporting, and inspiring each other. In the studio and our real lives, we are here for each other in so many ways.
I could not be prouder to be a part of this epic co-operative of strong, passionate, and perfectly imperfect grown-ass women who know their worth and love to dance.
