Sara & Tristan’s Nova Scotia Elopement July 11, 2020
The sun burst forth for a “bubbled” since May wedding party of four. Myself, the JP and a classical guitarist and the dogs Izzy and Lua were also in attendance. Throughout the past 3 months since Covid landed in our lap, Sara has remained calm, focused and romantically realistic about what her and Tristan’s elopement celebration could be.
Best friends by their side, live music ringing out over the lake, personal and intimate vows to each other and a strolly stroll through some epic gardens made for the most perfectly imperfect day. Sara & Tristan listened to “Girl from Ipanema” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love” from their guitarist while plunking it down on the grass to feed each other from the DIY charcuterie board, cupcakes from Layers (scored on the first day of reopening by chance) and “all the wine from NSLC” that Tristan could buy.
We hiked it in, on foot, after the gates had closed at Haliburton House in Windsor, and had a ball the entire time. While 2020 will not be the year for Plan A exactly as imagined wedding days, being witness to the kind of “new normal” relaxed, authentic and timeless moments couples continue to share is a privilege I am not taking for granted this season.
