Rachel & MatthewOctober 8th 2016
As i write this, another storm is a brewin' and I'm reminded how lucky Rachel and Matthew where a few weeks ago when the forecasted tropical storm warnings shifted by a day and presented us with a warm, sunny luscious fall day. Oakfield Golf and Country Club is one of my new favourite venues and did not disappoint again this year. While it's an active course on a late saturday afternoon, both the club's guide that drove us around and kept us from getting golf balls to the head, and the players themselves were quite accommodating. One player actually went and hid behind some bushes as he noticed the shot i had lined up, instead of concentrating on his own. Another offered a little "nip" of liquid libation to the groomsmen. That's some Nova Scotlan golf course manners for you! Rachel and Matthew, you killed it on the links during all our various stops. The maturity of your relationship shows in how you are with each other. There is a fierceness in Rachel's eyes when she knows Matthew is looking at her. Matthew, thanks for loaning me your groomsmen Peter during the photo shoot. Those who have shot with me know i usually ask the tallest groomsmen for a lighting assist trick on bright sunny days. Peter brought more than height, he made you and many others relax and laugh out loud on camera for me. Thanks Peter!
Nicholle & JeffreySeptember 24th 2016
Well I have to say, the Charette and Thomas families and Healy Farms in Kentville, were worth the drive. When I arrived a crew of moms and aunts, dads and uncles, groomsmen and sort of bridesmaids tended to the last of the details Nicholle and Jeffery had dreamed up for their celebration. This pretty place, this fun-loving family, and the charming details of this wedding day the couple planned were just plain lovely. I know I often say that my brides were relaxed and laid back, but Nicholle did the roll and pack technique on her wedding dress for the flight from Vancouver! Now that's a bride that can mix practicality with big dreams for her wedding day. Jeffrey, i have no idea what song your first dance was with Nicholle was, but how into it the two of you were on the floor made me totally "get" you as a couple. She's happy in every frame, Jeffrey, good on ya! Oh, and a major shout out to Barefoot Blooms in Summerville Nova Scotia. My obsession with Florists who grow locally continues.
Laura & ChristopherSeptember 17th 2016
Twice this year, I've have "you did my sister's wedding a few years ago" weddings. Those make you work in a particular way, to both deliver on the familiar way of story telling they are expecting, but also to capture this bride and groom's own story, even though some of the locations, elements and featured players are the same. Laura & Christopher's day started for me with a welcoming Hello from her mom, who right away remembered my twins, asked how old they are, and made the appropriate face when I mentioned that they've started school this year. When you watch, for the second time, a MOB and FOB, embrace while looking at their daughter finally dressed and ready to head to the church you feel honoured to have been asked back. But let me tell you what gave me the goose bumps at the end of the night. Not long into the day, I find out that Christopher's mom is a twin, and he describes his Aunt as basically having a second mom in his toasts and thank yous. But get this: half way through the "groom and his mother" dance, he graciously escorts his mom back and pulls his very surprised Aunt out onto the dance floor. I'm such a softie for the Mother Son dances, now that I am a mom, but that one in particular had me fighting to keep it together. Parents, you raised some good kids. Laura and Christopher, I've spent no time talking about the two of you when it should be all about you but anyone who looks below will see how connected, real, and romantically there you are for each other. With that laugh that can't be contained in Laura, and those Mad Men looks Christopher threw at me, it was easy for me to find the story of you.
Cristie & MikeSeptember 10th 2016
Blessed with a beautiful fall day and grandparents a plenty, Christie and Mike tied the knot at the Old Orchard Inn & Spa. Cristie was an organized, detailed, super punctual bride, and Mike listened to every suggestion I had with a smile and an accommodating nod. The Wolfville area of Nova Scotia just has a way about it, a natural, romantic, rural charm. A perfect match for the character of the relationship between Cristie and Mike I was witness too. Thanks for trusting me to capture it all.
Heidi & ColinSeptember 3rd 2016
Where to begin. Heidi and Colin threw a beautifully detailed, charming, and welcoming wedding at Shining Waters Marina here in Nova Scotia. All the pretty things were pretty, the outdoor ceremony fairy tale details magical, and everyone looked fantastic. But the story inside this day for me has to do with the fact that family and friends mattered more than all of the "stuff" of a wedding to Heidi and Colin, and everyone felt it. How do i know? That feeling came back to our bride and groom in the amazing stories and toasts that had even me laughing out loud, and holding back tears. Weddings are the shiny day against which your not so shiny days will get measured. It is clear to me your friends and family are happy to be there for all the less shiny days with you. But maybe give your dad a couple days off, Heidi, from reno work!
